Challenger is an early maincrop variety.  This variety is particularily suitable for french fries.  Tubers have good resistance to splitting and some resistance to bruising.  Trials have found good resistance to dry rot, silver scurf, common scab and skin spot.  Tests for resistance to potato cyst nematode demonstrated susceptibility to both Globodera rostochiensis Ro1 and Globodera pallida Pa 2/3, 1.
